G.O.T. Balloons is an informal jam where fellow balloon artists get together to twist balloons, share ideas, fellowship, and have fun. Because it is informal, there are not many rules, but we do have a few that we have been forced to add due to the behavior of some who have attended our jams in the past. We ask that you respect your fellow artists and obey these simple rules. If you are caught breaking the rules you will be asked to leave the jam, you will be removed from any notifications, and you will be banned from attending future jams. These rules are in place to keep the jam informal, the atmosphere light, and the emphasis on fun and relaxation for all who join us.
Do not make balloons for the customers or employees of the restaurant. As entertainers, we spend the rest of the month taking requests and making balloons for people. If someone makes a balloon for a restaurant customer or employee we will likely spend the rest of the evening with a steady flow of customers and workers requesting balloons. This is our time to relax and make what we want without being bombarded with requests.
Do not use the jam to recruit people to work for you. Twisters come to the jam to relax and have fun with their fellow entertainers, not to be hit up to work for your company. If someone approaches you about your company, please give them your card and ask them to contact you at a later date. Please do not approach people about your company unless they ask you first. This includes emailing them before the jam and asking them to talk to you at the jam about working for your company.
Do not use the jam as a class for your employees, co-workers, or contractors. If you want to schedule a class, please do so on a different night. We do not organize the jams so you can use them as a ready made class. Sharing ideas is a different thing, we encourage the free sharing of ideas to spark creativity and interaction. If someone asks you how to make something, please feel free to share, but do not make plans to set up a class at the jam. We also ask that you don’t monopolize someone’s time. If you have something you want to learn, please feel free to ask someone if they would like to share a design with you, but please do not spend the evening asking for one design after another. This is not fair to the other twister because they did not come to be your personal instructor, or to teach a class; they came to jam and fellowship with their friends and fellow twisters.
Do not hand out your cards to restaurant employees or customers. The restaurant has graciously allowed us to use a portion of their restaurant for the jam, in return we ask that you respect them and their customers by not using the time to solicit business. If someone asks for a card, it is common courtesy to refer them to the host of an event. Yes, that would be me, and no, I’m not trying to be mean or selfish. If I attend a jam hosted by someone else I do the same thing as a way to support the host for setting up the event. It’s no different than working an event for an agent, you give out their cards because they made it possible for you to be there in the first place.
Please buy something from the restaurant. The restaurant is allowing us to take up an entire room from 6 pm until we all leave. The tables we are occupying could be used by other paying customers, so please show your appreciation by buying something, even if it’s only a drink and a dessert.
Do not expect other twisters to watch your children. Our jams are open to all ages; however, if you bring small children please do not ask others to watch them so you can twist. We do not provide babysitting or childcare. Please be a responsible parent if you bring your children and watch them so that they do not get into other twisters supplies, interrupt other twisters who are at the jam, or cause problems with the restaurant.
Bring your own balloons and twisting supplies if you plan on twisting. Sharing is allowed and encouraged, especially if you have discovered a new balloon, supply, or technique that you think others will enjoy. If you need something specific, please feel free to ask a fellow twister, but do not come to the jam with no balloons or supplies with the intention of using other twisters supplies.
